This course can take you from your first breath underwater (something you will never forget) to being a certified autonomous diver! The fun part? Just about all of it, because learning to dive is incredible! During the course, you’ll learn all about the scuba equipment, make at least six confined water training sessions and four training dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your Instructor.

What will you learn?
The Open Water Diver course takes 3-4 in person teaching days and consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development (online e-learning and in-person academic sessions) to understand the basic principles of scuba diving, the scuba equipment set up and use, as well as the safety rules and information.
- Confined Water sessions to learn and get comfortable with the use of the scuba equipment and basic scuba skills such as: mask and regulator clearing, buoyancy and breathing underwater, independence and problem solving, and emergency and safety procedures.
- Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore the underwater world!
What Scuba Gear will you use?
The course includes the use of the full basic scuba gear including mask, snorkel and fins, the buoyancy compensator jacket which also holds your scuba tank, a regulator to breathe from, instrumentation to check your depth and air levels and a weight system. In the Open Water Diver course, you also learn to use standard accessories including a dSMB and a dive computer. You will also be provided with a wetsuit and other thermal protection appropriate to the current temperatures.
Our in-house shop also carries a selection of a variety of equipment if at any point you wish to purchase personal equipment to make your learning experience more comfortable and motivate yourself to get in the water after completing the course.
What learning materials will you need?
When you sign up for the course you will receive immediate access to the SSI online learning materials. These can be used either through the SSI website or App and can also be downloaded for offline use. The e-learning materials include text and video content of both academic knowledge and in-water skills, which will cover everything that you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. The online learning also includes knowledge review tests for each concept which need to be completed before you can receive your certification.
In addition to the online materials to be completed at home, you will also receive at least 6 in person academic sessions. After which you will get in the pool/confined water to learn and practice in-water skills with your instructor to then move on to the open water dives for further practice to become a capable autonomous diver able to enjoy the wonders of the underwater world.

✔ PREREQUISITES
To enroll in an Open Water Diver course, you must be at least 10 years old. You also need adequate swimming skills and to be in good physical health (pass a health questionnaire or a medical check up)
